Truck drivers in Florida and Georgia may be removed from the road during a traffic stop if they cannot read or speak English proficiently, according to a federal order signed recently.
U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy signed an order on May 20 that implements new guidelines to “strengthen English language enforcement for commercial truck operators” across the nation, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s website.
Under the guidelines, commercial motor vehicle drivers who fail to comply with the requirement will be placed out of service, according to the DOT.
