Two people died in a mobile home fire in Auburndale on the afternoon of Aug. 12.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that it’s conducting a death investigation at Gladiola Drive in Auburndale.
A Polk County 911 caller reported the fire at 1:23 p.m. from a neighbor, the Sheriff’s Office said. There are two confirmed adult fatalities inside the home. An autopsy on Aug. 13 will determine the causes of death.
“It’s always sad when deaths occur during emergency situations. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the individuals that passed,” said Polk County Fire Chief Shawn Smith.
In addition to the Sheriff’s Office, Polk County Fire Rescue responded and battled the blaze. The State Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
