A traffic stop on Thursday afternoon in Lakeland led to the arrest of a 25-year-old Winter Haven man after a deputy clocked his vehicle traveling 55 mph over the speed limit.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Sadler was conducting traffic enforcement on Skyview Drive, a residential street with a 30 mph speed limit, when he observed a red Chevy sedan speeding. At approximately 5:53 p.m., radar confirmed the vehicle’s speed at a staggering 85 mph.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Leroy Felder Jones, IV. When asked why he thought he was pulled over, Jones reportedly told Deputy Sadler that he could probably guess.
Jones was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail. He faces a charge of Dangerous Excessive Speeding. Deputy Sadler’s affidavit noted that pedestrians and bicyclists were present in the area at the time of the incident, highlighting the significant risk posed by the vehicle’s excessive speed.
