This romance book really puts you through all of the hard parts of life change. It was messy, raw, and real. Ingrid had her life turned upside down abruptly after having such a regimented and kind of boring life. I tried to give Ingrid a lot of grace, but there was a point where it was so incredibly unbelievable that she didn’t see that a relationship break to explore could only result in the end of the relationship. They were both nearly 30 years old! It made me incredibly frustrated.
As the book went on, I realized that it was more about Ingrid’s growth as a person than the romance. The romance was present, sweet, and a definite slow burn. It was nice, but Ingrid coming to realizations about herself was far more important. That was my favorite part of the book. It was messy and sometimes didn’t put her in the best light, but it made her feel so much more real.
This story won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was well worth the journey. I don’t read many books that have me cringing in secondhand embarrassment from the first chapter. That feat deserves an award. To anyone wanting to try this book, the cringe is worth it and redeemed! Stay strong.
I recommend this book to romance fans who are in it for the interpersonal relationships in a story. There is plenty of time spent with the love interest, but also a healthy amount of focus on Ingrid’s other friendships. I also recommend this book to those who like a book that takes you along for the whole messy self growth journey. I liked this book and recommend giving it a try.
