Avelo Airlines released its summer flight schedule out of Lakeland International Airport on Jan. 20.
Travelers can now book flights through Aug. 18 to start planning summer vacations, but will quickly spot there are some seasonal changes in service.

With Avelo’s affordable fares and industry-leading reliability, it’s the perfect time for travelers to get a head start on booking their summer vacations or weekend getaways to their favorite destinations,” said Trevor Yealy, Avelo’s head of commercial.
The low-budget airline carrier will provide service to the following destinations out of Lakeland Linder this summer:
- Atlanta (code ATL)
- Charlotte / Concord, N.C. (code USA)
- Nashville, Tennessee (code BNA)
- New Haven, Connecticut (code HVN)
- Philadelphia / Wilmington, Delaware (code ILG)
- Rochester, New York( code ROC)
- San Juan, Puerto Rico (code SJU)
- Wilmington, North Carolina (code ILM)
No Michigan flights over the summer?
Two routes that didn’t make the cut this summer are Detroit Metropolitan Wane County Airport (code DTW) , whose last seasonal flight is April 18, and Grand Rapids, Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford International Airport (code GRR), whose last flight is April 19.
When Avelo announced it would offer flights between Lakeland and Detroit, the carrier said the route would be seasonal to coincide with Spring Training when the Detroit Tigers play exhibition games in Lakeland.
Some days of service are changing
Travelers may notice that the days on which service is offered to many cities is changing for the summer. For example, Avelo currently offers flights from Lakeland to Atlanta on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday. Starting in May, its schedule will shift to flights on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Earlier in January, Avelo announced it was adding two planes to its Lakeland Linder base with the promise of increasing its flight frequency between Lakeland Atlanta (code ATL) and Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina (code USA).
