His name is Beacon, which means a light pointing toward change. Something so desperately needed here.

Polk County, Florida, is in the middle of an animal welfare crisis.

Every single day, we witness cruelty cases that shatter the heart. Animals are dumped like trash, abandoned as if their lives have no value. They are treated as disposable.

The Animal Control facility is over 40 years old, with no air conditioning and no heat, sitting beside a landfill. Sick, injured, and terrified animals are forced to suffer in deplorable conditions. Many never make it out alive. The euthanasia rates are devastatingly high—not because these animals can’t be saved, but because they are being failed.

Despite this suffering, Polk County commissioners and Sheriff Grady Judd, who oversees Animal Control, refuse to act. They will not enact basic animal welfare or life-saving ordinances. Commissioners openly admit they won’t pass protections, and the sheriff refuses to push for change.

Meanwhile, innocent souls pay the price.

These animals have no voice. They feel pain. They feel fear. And they are dying because the people sworn to protect them choose silence and inaction.

This is not just neglect.

This is a moral failure.
