This tragic incident refers to the 2024 kidnapping and slaughter of Nugget, a 10-year-old American Quarter Horse, in Homestead, Florida.
The Incident: Nugget was stolen from his private stable overnight. His owner found him the next morning on a nearby property, where he had been brutally killed and butchered for his meat.
Just days before the theft, Nugget’s owner had him fitted with new shoes, which helped lead investigators to his remains.
Investigation: The Animal Recovery Mission (ARM) has been heavily involved in investigating the case as part of its broader effort to combat the illegal horse meat trade in Florida.
Florida has some of the strictest laws against horse slaughter in the U.S., but illegal operations remain a significant issue in Florida.
Nugget didn’t deserve this unimaginable suffering. Neither do the countless other victims who faced similar fates.
