Did you know that Florida once again ranks among the highest in the United States for the total number of registered sex offenders? Our state, with 32,460 individuals listed on the registry as of August 2024. While 2026 specific ranking data is not yet available, recent reports from late 2024 confirm the state’s registry contains over 86,000 offenders and predators, with 30,000 to 32,760 residing within Florida communities.
Orange County consistently holds the highest concentration of registered offenders within the state, with approximately 2,300 residents listed as of 2018-2019 data, though the total state population of registered offenders has risen by roughly 53% since 2005. The typical registered offender is identified as a white, middle-aged male, and a whopping 79 percent have committed sexual crimes against children.
Despite the high numbers, 60 percent of all individuals on Florida’s registry do not reside in the state, as they are confined in prison, have moved to other states, or have been deported. The state maintains strict monitoring requirements, including mandatory electronic monitoring for certain offenders and residency restrictions that contribute to challenges in housing and transience for those living in Florida.
Residents can sign up for the Florida Offender Alert system via the FDLE website to receive free email notifications if a registered predator or offended moves into their specific neighborhood.
