Over 200 cats per month killed for no reason -

Polk County Animal Control statistics through March. Great job by the rescues who are pulling animals (239 dogs and 466 cats ), saving lives.

The cumulative euthanasia number for cats is still appalling, sadly. Over 200 cats per month killed for no reason, when most of them could have been fixed and returned to the field.

An absolutely ridiculous number of stray cats being taken in, many of whom could have been fixed and returned to field.

Please don’t trap and take cats into Polk Animal Control. If they are healthy, Fix them and let them live their lives. As you can see, taking them to animal control is a death sentence for at least 50% of them.

They don’t need to die at the “shelter” because they are street cats. Many of them may have owners and almost all of them have caregivers who feed and look out for them.
