Florida Children’s Museum is hosting its 4th Annual Watermelon Festival this Saturday, May 2, 2026.
This “pay what you can” event celebrates Central Florida’s watermelon farming tradition with activities both inside the museum and outdoors on the Great Lawn at Bonnet Springs Park.

- Where: Florida Children’s Museum & Bonnet Springs Park Great Lawn (600 Bonnet Springs Blvd, Lakeland)
- Admission: Pay what you can (donations support museum operations and programming).
What to Expect
The festival features a mix of indoor and outdoor activities for families:
On the Great Lawn:
- Inflatables provided by Lakeland Moonwalk.
- DJ and dancing.
- Free watermelon slices (courtesy of Global Produce Sales).
- Free hearing screenings in the Central Florida Speech and Hearing mobile unit.
- Activities from over 20 community partners and businesses.
Inside the Museum:
- 10:30 a.m. & 1:30 p.m.: Story Sprouts (The Watermelon Seed & Parachute Games).
- 10:30 a.m. & 3:30 p.m.: STEM Challenge (Watermelon Seed Catapults) and Mini Masterpieces (Watermelon Carving).
- 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Face painting.
- 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: All Ages Afternoon in the SPLAT Studio.
- 3:45 p.m.: Movin’ and Groovin’.
Since much of the event takes place on the Great Lawn, it is recommended to bring sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and attire suitable for being outdoors.
