On Friday, June 12, 2026, City of Lakeland Commissioners Madden, LaLonde, Troutman, and Coney signal approval for City Attorney Palmer Davis to move forward with drafting an ordinance for a 12-month moratorium on large-scale data centers and monthly peak power users of 50,000+ megawatts.
At the Monday, June 15 City Commission meeting, the proposed ordinance for a 12-month moratorium on large-scale data centers will be discussed. Under Florida law, the adoption of a moratorium of this nature would require the approval of an ordinance following two publicly advertised public hearings. Should the City Commission choose to move forward with a proposed ordinance, opportunities for public comment would be provided during the required public hearings. The first hearing would be scheduled for July 6, followed by the second hearing on July 21.
