If you step into the Glory Days sports bar in Lakeland, you will find a memorial built to honor the legacy of Maj. Cody Khork.
Khork was killed in battle during a drone strike in Kuwait during the early stages of Operation Epic Fury.
“If you read it (the memorial), you’ve spoken my name. You’ve spoken my son’s name. So there’s, that goal accomplished, if I accomplish nothing more than that. That is a huge goal for us,” said Stacey Khork, Cody’s mother.
Maj. Khork’s family and friends gathered for the unveiling of the memorial, which features pictures and messages about the fallen soldier’s past.
“We hope this restaurant is a place where you can come, remember Cody, tell stories, remember his sacrifice and the wonderful values he represented,” said Ben Eldridge, with Glory Days.
In addition to the tribute, Florida Southern College has announced an endowed scholarship to honor Khork’s memory. The scholarship, which is for any ROTC student at the school, has raised more than $140,000 to date.
