It is official! The Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital is opening its doors on July 8, 2026.
This is a massive deal for the area—it is the first brand-new hospital to open in Lakeland in over a century, representing a $500 million investment right where the Polk Parkway meets Lakeland Highlands Road.
Here is a quick look at what the 550,000-square-foot facility is bringing to South Lakeland on opening day:
- Beds & Capacity: More than 300 patient beds and nearly 50 emergency room beds.
- Medical Staff: They’ve hired 1,500 employees and around 75 physicians to get started.
- Surgical Tech: 11 operating rooms fully loaded with advanced surgical robots.
- Women & Babies: A dedicated birthing center with labor, delivery, and postpartum rooms. A Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is scheduled to open shortly in the fall.
The partnership with Watson Clinic means a lot of local doctors will have direct admitting privileges there, which should make coordinating follow-ups and outpatient care a lot smoother if you already use that network.
Also, if you live on the other side of town, Orlando Health is building a separate, freestanding emergency room in North Lakeland (at Lakeland Park Center) that is slated to open this coming October.
