HEAVY LAW ENFORCEMENT PRESENCE – KATHLEEN AREA
A major law enforcement response is underway in the Rushing Road area of Lakeland (Kathleen area) after deputies attempting to serve an arrest warrant came under fire shortly after arriving on scene around 6:00 p.m.
A perimeter has been established, and multiple additional law enforcement agencies have responded to assist. Authorities have requested all available units to the scene, and officers have also requested ballistic shields.
During the incident, a K-9 Ace was shot and injured. An Aeromed helicopter was initially requested but was unable to respond due to weather conditions. The K-9 is being transported to receive emergency veterinary care by ground.
This remains a very active and rapidly developing situation. Motorists and residents are urged to avoid the area and allow first responders room to work.
