Autopsy results, released Tuesday by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, indicate fatal injuries sustained in the death of 22-year-old Kara Hanvey were ruled as being consistent with being hit by a car.
Hanvey was found unresponsive near the intersection of U.S. 92 and Fish Hatchery Road after the PCSO Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call about 6:40 a.m. Sunday.
The Sheriff’s Office released a recording of the call, in which a man said he noticed the woman while driving past, and said she seemed to have bruises on her face.
Hanvey’s death is still under investigation and the PCSO is seeking information about her whereabouts on Saturday evening through Sunday morning. In a news release issued Tuesday, the Sheriff’s Office asked that if anyone has any information about Hanvey’s whereabouts during that time frame, or anyone traveling on U.S. 92 East (also known as East Memorial Boulevard) in Lakeland between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. on June 16 saw anything suspicious, to call the PCSO Traffic Unit at 863-297-1100.
