The Lakeland Magic, the NBA G League affiliate of the Orlando Magic, will host A Night of the Arts theme night dedicated to the local art community on March 14, 2020. Artist will showcase their talents during a pre-game Art Festival prior to Lakeland Magic tip-off. All game entertainment will surround the dedicated theme and incorporate local artists throughout.
The Lakeland Magic introduced A Night of the Arts during a preview event on Thursday, June 27, which included a number of local artists and community advocates. The event was held at the local art gallery, Curated Interiors located in downtown Lakeland and included local live artist, Jon Sierra and musician, Robert Philips. Guests also enjoyed the culinary art of Tina Calhoon, owner of Fresco’s in Lakeland.
During the event, the Magic unveiled the addition of a new mural that will be completed in September. The mural was designed by the Lakeland Magic and will be completed by Lakeland native and local artist Gillian Fazio. The mural is located at the RP Funding Center and is inspired by community pride serving as a destination for both locals and those visiting our city. “The mural compliments the current artwork provided by the Lakeland Art Guild, that can be seen throughout the RP Funding Center. This piece will serve as an extension to the art that’s currently happening downtown and we’re happy to be the canvas that connects the two.“ said RP Funding Center Director, Tony Camarillo.
Lakeland also launched a Jersey Design Contest in which local artists are able to design the uniforms that will be worn by Lakeland Magic players during the game. The contest is open to the public for submissions through July 21, 2019 and will open to fans for voting starting on August 1, 2019. Player worn jerseys will be auctioned off with proceeds benefitting the winner’s Polk County charity of choice. The LKLD mural will be unveiled at a dedicated event on September 13 (time pending) at the RP Funding Center. “We’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate with the local community and highlight the artistic talent here in Lakeland.” said Lakeland Magic Vice President, Dara Trujillo.
