Mason Jones finished 14th as Florida Southern College’s men’s cross country finished 6th at the UF Mountain Dew Invite in Gainesville, Fla.
Jones turned in a time of 26:13.6, which marks his fastest 8K to start off a season.
Florida Southern totaled 190 points as host Florida won the meet with 40 points. Embry-Riddle (3rd) led Division II teams with 142 points with Saint Leo (168 points, 4th) and Flagler (182 points, 5th) just edging out the Moccasins.
Josh Wagner was the second Moccasin to finish, coming in 24th place with a 26:26.4 time. Mitchell Kozik finished third for Southern with a time of 26:56.6, good enough for 36th overall. Freshmen Troy Smith (27:04.1, 41st) and Alex Guy (28:03.9, 98th) rounded out the top five for Florida Southern.
After a week off for training, the team will split to tackle the FLRunners Invitational at Holloway Park on Sept. 27 and the Roy Griak Invitational in St. Paul, Minn. on Sept. 28.
