After two overtime periods, Polk State and Broward College ended in a scoreless tie today in Lakeland.
When the 110-minute defensive struggle concluded, the Eagles finished with 11 shots and six goalkeeper saves, while the Seahawks tallied 13 shots and five saves.
Broward looked like it might break the tie in the final minutes of regulation, but goalkeeper Celeste Chiles made a diving save, knocking a shot away from the corner of the net.
Head Coach Steve Linamen said he was pleased with his team’s effort.
“Overall, they kept their heads straight and stayed in it, even through double overtime. We just have to finish our chances. We had a couple of solid chances where we should have put the ball in the net and we didn’t.
“But we’re slowly progressing as we finish this first round of regional team play, and I think that will have us in a much better position in the second half.”
The Eagles (0-3-1) hit the road Oct. 2 for a 6 p.m. match against Eastern Florida in Melbourne.
