For the third-straight season and third time in program history, the Southeastern University women’s soccer team will compete in the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The Fire are the No. 6 Seed in the field and will host an Opening Round this weekend that will include University of the Cumberlands and Tennessee Wesleyan.
Southeastern earned an at-large bid to the tournament after finishing the season 16-4 and as Sun Conference Regular Season and Tournament Runners-Up.
The Fire are led by four-year senior and captain Uchenna Kanu, who has netted 38 goals and recorded 17 assists this season. Kanu also recently became the NAIA All-Time Leader in Career Goals Scored, currently sitting at 153 career goals scored.
This also marks the third consecutive season SEU has hosted an Opening Round.
Cumberlands earned an at-large bid after a 14-3-1 campaign and coming in at No. 17 in the latest NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. The Mid-South Conference program will make their first NAIA National Tournament appearance.
Tennessee Wesleyan earned a bid as the Appalachian Athletic Conference Regular Season Runners-Up. The Bulldogs went 17-3 on the year and were receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. This marks the fifth all-time National Tournament appearance for TWU.
Cumberlands and Tennessee Wesleyan will battle on Friday for the chance to face SEU on Saturday. The winner of the Lakeland Opening Round will earn a place at the Final Site in Orange Beach, Alabama. Game times are to be determined.
