Southeastern University’s Taylah Simmons was selected as The Sun Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in leading the Fire to a 3-0 week with two Top 25 victories.
Simmons earned her second weekly honor of the season after averaging 20 points, 9.7 rebounds, and four assists per game last week.
The junior forward started with a 14-point, eight assist, and seven rebound effort to help SEU down No. 13 Saint Francis, 87-64. She played 36 minutes in a 94-90 overtime victory against NCAA Division II Ferris State and posted a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Simmons captained an upset of No. 1 Concordia (Neb.) by posting a second double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds as Southeastern cruised to a 97-72 win over the defending national champions, ending the Bulldogs’ 23-game win streak.
This season, the Melbourne, Australia native is averaging 21.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, and is 55.8% from the field.
The Fire have now won 12 straight, and return to action in Miami Gardens on January 4th against Florida Memorial.
