The Southeastern University wrestling team placed eighth at the NWCA National Team Duals at Freedom Hall, going 0-2 during the final day of competition.
SEU dropped a 26-16 match to No. 3 Campbellsville, then lost 20-14 to No. 12 Providence in the seventh-place match.
The Fire found themselves in a 12-point hole after three matches, but Andreus Bond tried to swing momentum back the way of the Fire with a first period pin of No. 5 Michel Diemer to cut the deficit in half. Dylan Chatterton followed with a major decision to get the Fire within two.
The Tigers scored two falls in the final five matches, and won a decision at 184 to secure the match.
Chatterton finished his weekend unbeaten, getting a technical fall in SEU’s match against Providence.
Esau Bazilme and Xavier Williamson picked up decisions to put Southeastern up 6-0 against Providence, but wins at 141 and 149 by bonus points got the Argos going.
The Fire return to action next Saturday in West Palm Beach for a tri-match with Keiser and Life.
