The Southeastern University women’s basketball team is at the top of the NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 for the fourth time in program history.
SEU received 11 of a possible 12 first place votes to edge out unbeaten Hastings for the top spot by 10 points. The Fire are 16-2 on the season and have won their last 15 contests.
The Fire moved up one spot in the poll after knocking off then No. 13 Saint Francis and previous No. 1 Concordia (Neb.) since the last rating. Additionally, Southeastern has moved its win streak against Sun Conference teams to 70.
Taylah Simmons, the NAIA National Player of the Week, is coming off of a school-record 45 points against Keiser, and is now the leading scorer in NAIA women’s basketball at 24.1 points per game.
As a team, the Fire lead NAIA Division II in defense, holing opponents to 53.5 points per game and a shooting percentage of 31.1%. On offense, the Fire are first in team field goal percentage at 49.7%, and are fourth in scoring at 88.9 points per game.
Southeastern will return to action on Saturday at Ave Maria at 2 p.m.
