A bomb threat has caused police officers to evacuate Lakeland Public Library on Lake Morton this Thursday morning.
Robin Tillett, the spokeswoman for the Lakeland Police Department, said a man walked into the building at approximately 8:48 a.m. Thursday and made a verbal bomb threat to staff.
Police officers responded to the scene where they immediately evacuated the building “in abundance of caution,” according to Tillett. A canine unit was dispatched to thoroughly search the building before it is reopened to patrons.
The suspect has been arrested and is in police custody. Residents are being asked to avoid the area as of 10 a.m.
The LPD bomb squad is at the library with a robot to search for any potential bomb in the building.
After a thorough search of the facility by a canine unit and bomb squad using a robot, Lakeland Public Library re-opened to the public at approximately 11:10 a.m.
