The boys are back in town! LFD Firefighters and Engine 11 are back in Lakeland, after lending a hand in #SWFlorida effected by #wildfires. They hit hot spots, protected threatened structures, and patrolled large swaths to ensure the fires stayed out. Thank you to all the firefighters from across the state, that came together to lend a hand.

As firefighters in #CollierCounty continue to battle a brush fire that has consumed over 8,500 acres (so far), a group of firefighters from #TampaBay is on its way to help! This team includes Lakeland Fire Department’s Lt. Dan Varner, Driver Engineer Derek Wiggins, Firefighters Alex Pickup-Crawford and Sage Stephens, and Engine 11!
The caravan of fire trucks from department’s that also include Pasco County Fire Rescue, Sumter County Fire & Rescue, and Hernando County Fire Rescue, rolled out of town Thursday (May 14) afternoon. Collectively they are Strike Team 1401.
With reports that more than a dozen structures have been damaged and only a fraction (approximately 10%) of the fire being contained, firefighters know they’re heading into a lot of unknowns with a lot of dangerous work ahead of them.
Collectively, the Strike Team will be doing some firefighting, some structural protection, and relieving exhausted units.
