Just because you see the PCSO helicopter in the sky or K9’s tracking on the ground, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re searching for bad guys.
On Monday afternoon, officers for the Lakeland Police Department were busy trying to find someone…a missing and endangered child, in the area southwest of the US 98 and I-4 interchange.
LPD reached out to the PCSO for some K9 assistance.
We sent them Deputy Roberts and his Bloodhound Cat. You read that right…the Bloodhound’s name is Cat.
Deputy Roberts and Cat started at the child’s home and continued around the back of an apartment complex onto a road, then down and across another road and then through a dense wooded area, crossing over and along another road before locating the child (who was found uninjured) after a track of about one mile. All that from one good sniff by Cat of a clothing item worn by the child. Well done, Deputy Roberts and Cat (and LPD, of course).
Had Cat been and actual cat, it would have been a sniff, and then nice hour-long nap.
