And they’re off! Flight To Honor Mission 6 is officially underway. Veterans from Korea and Vietnam wars loaded up this morning at approximately 5 AM, headed out to Washington DC. The veterans, each accompanied by a guardian will enjoy the sites of national memorials erected in honor of their service and sacrifice.
We can’t wait to greet them tonight at Lakeland Linder International Airport for the Welcome Home celebration! Doors open at 7 PM and the flight is due back at 8 PM.

Flight to Honor Mission #6 departed early this morning with five of #LFD’s very own serving as guardians to war veterans. Onboard are Fire Chief Doug Riley, Battalion Chief Jim Thompson (Ret. the United States Air Force ), Lieutenant John Fezy ( Ret. the United States Air Force), Firefighter Armando Silva (Ret. U.S. Army ), and Firefighter Sean Surden (Ret. U.S. Marine Corps) escorting Korean War and Vietnam War veterans. The trip for these #Lakeland#firefighters as guardians and their assigned Veterans on this once in a lifetime experience is sponsored by Lakeland Professional Firefighters, with the exception of Fire Chief Riley who sponsored his own way. The Mission departed from and will return to Lakeland Linder International Airport for the one-day visit to Washington DC.
The purpose of the program is to safely transport veterans to Washington DC to visit the memorials erected in their honor for their service to our country; provide an opportunity for the community to express their appreciation for their service; and, reinforce the importance of service above self.87 Veterans and Guardians plus a team leader, bus captains, and photographer are on the flight. The Veterans on Flight to Honor #6 primarily include those who served during the Korea and Vietnam Wars.
The flight is scheduled to return to Lakeland Linder International Airport at 8:00 PM on April 27th. Everyone is invited to attend the Welcome Home event to take place on the tarmac at the Terminal. The doors will open at 7:00 PM culminating in the welcome home when the flight arrives.
