The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) recently held their Florida Law Enforcement Hall of Fame induction ceremony, and we’re pleased to announce that one of the inductees is quite familiar to us here at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Lawrence W. Crow, Jr., was the longest-serving Polk County Sheriff having served from 1987 (appointed by Governor Bob Martinez) until he retired in 2004—Sheriff Judd now holds the record as the longest-serving Sheriff since January of this year.
Sheriff Crow was technically inducted into the Hall of Fame for 2020, but due to the pandemic, he had to wait until this year’s ceremony which recognized both 2020 and 2021 recipients. Sheriff Crow previously served as the Lakeland Police Department Police Chief from 1980-1987, and also served as the chair of the Florida Sheriff’s Youth Ranches, a member of the Florida Sheriff’s Association Board of Directors, and on the governor’s Criminal and Juvenile Justice Information Systems Council. For those who don’t know, he’s the one on the far left in the photo.
