WHEREAS, Scott and Peggy Neslund, instilled with an entrepreneurial spirit, have provided families in Lakeland with 40 years of family fun; and
WHEREAS, on March 7, 1981, on the heels of the Pac-Man craze, opened the first of four Family Fun Center locations at 3895 South Florida Avenue; and
WHEREAS, 40 years later, the Family Fun Center is still in business at their present location of 4825 South Florida Avenue; and
WHEREAS, over the years, the business has been a workplace and often the first job for 1,500+ teenagers and young adults, helping develop marketable skills and work ethic; and
WHEREAS, the Family Fun Center has been a destination for first dates and the catalyst for future marriages between its employees; and
WHEREAS, since its inception, approximately 1 billion prize tickets have been won, 50 million arcade games played, 1 million slices of pizza served, and 25,000 golf balls lost on the mini-golf course; and
WHEREAS, the Family Fun Center has created birthday party memories for three generations of Polk County families; and
WHEREAS, this landmark home to laser tag, miniature golf, arcade games, and the Funtasia playground is a go-to outing for Lakelanders and neighbors in surrounding communities; and
WHEREAS, on January 1, 2013, Scott and Peggy put the “family” in Family Fun.
