The Schools of McKeel Academy issued a two-week mask mandate Thursday afternoon for all students and staff at the charter system’s elementary school — South McKeel Academy — beginning on Friday.
In addition, all bus riders to South McKeel Academy and McKeel Academy Central must wear masks.
The South McKeel mandate pertains to students and staff when “indoors, regardless of vaccination status.”
“The Schools of McKeel Academy continues to operate amidst a fluid environment surrounding COVID-19,” the announcement stated. “TSMA is taking a granular approach in relation to campus mask mandates until circumstances may dictate otherwise.”
Director of Schools Alan Black said the system implemented the mandate because of an increase of COVID-19 infections, but did not say how many staff or students were infected.
“The health and safety of our students and staff are a top priority,” Black said. “We will continue to monitor the level of infection across our entire system of schools reiterating the overall health and safety of our students and staff as a top priority.”
