Memorial service set Polk County sheriff’s deputy who died of COVID-19

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a memorial service for Deputy Christopher Broadhead will be held in Lakeland on Monday at 10 a.m.

The service will be at Victory Church, 1401 Griffin Road in Lakeland.

Broadhead, 32, had COVID-19 and was hospitalized for several weeks before he died from the illness on Monday. He had been a Polk County deputy since 2011.

The Sheriff’s Office said to be cautious of heavy traffic on Griffin Road, Kathleen Road, and possibly U.S. 98 North before and after the service.

Officials said the family wants guests to wear masks during the service and there will be no viewing or graveside service.

Law enforcement honors will take place outside of the church immediately after the service.

Victory Church will live-stream the service on its Facebook page, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The video also will be shared live on the PCSO Facebook page and will post a live video of the law enforcement honors held outside the church on the PCSO Facebook page as well, officials said.

How to help

Instead of flowers, officials said the family is asking people to donate to the Central Florida Ronald McDonald House at www.rmhccf.org and anyone wishing to make a monetary donation to the Broadhead family can donate through Polk Sheriff’s Charities Inc.
