A two-vehicle crash in unincorporated Haines City kills Winter Haven woman

A Winter Haven woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash east of Haines City Wednesday morning, October 20, 2021.

20-year old Priscilla Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene when first responders arrived.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Polk County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the crash on Cypress Parkway near the intersection of Lake Marion Creek Road at about 6:51 AM.

Ms. Diaz was the lone occupant of a red 2008 Honda Fit.

The other vehicle, a black 2017 Toyota Sienna, was driven by 46-year old Sita Maharaj from Kissimmee, and also occupied by a 14-year old passenger. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Statements and evidence in the preliminary investigation showed that Ms. Diaz’s Honda was traveling east on Cypress Parkway, while Ms. Maharaj’s Toyota was westbound. For unknown reasons at this time, the Honda crossed the center line in the road and collided with the Toyota.

Ms. Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt, while both occupants of the Toyota were wearing theirs.

Cypress Parkway was closed for approximately four hours for the investigation which remains ongoing.
