Orlando fire Chief Benjamin Barksdale has submitted his resignation.
Officials say Deputy Orlando fire Chief Craig Buckley will continue to serve as interim chief.
In August, Barksdale was suspended after a misdemeanor warrant was issued for his arrest in North Carolina. The description of Barksdale’s North Carolina warrant read “assault on a female.”
Barksdale wrote that he is resigning “in the best interest to the City of Orlando due to the languishing legal process with resolving the allegations” against him in North Carolina.
He went on to say thank you for the opportunity to serve as chief.
