If Beloved is criminal pornography, come put me in jail, Grady Judd. Please, please, please.

It’s important to meet absurd anti-social dominance rituals with equally absurd escalation and moral aggression. Call their bluff and embarrass them with non-violent confrontation.

Steve Maxwell, the inheritance baby “AINO” guy, and his so-called County Citizens Defending Freedom (CCDF) want to prevent your children from reading certain books by banning them from your school library.

I struggle to relate with this level of weak petty hatred.

I can’t imagine what it’s like to hate black people and gay people or people “different” from you so much that you use Big Government to prevent other people’s kids from encountering their fictional experiences.

Imagine thinking about sex of much — and hating the idea of black people so much — that you want to ban Nobel laureate Toni Morrison’s classic post-slavery novel Beloved as pornography. It’s been in every American library for 35 years. Cat’s out of the bag on that one, sex-obsessed haters.

Likewise, I can’t imagine what it’s like to hate your neighbors or your fellow church-goers or your friends or your co-workers or your kids or your spouse so much that you would describe them as “Americans in Name Only” — A.I.N.Os — if they disagree you about public health policy — or any other policy. But here it is; and here he is. That’s what Steve Maxwell says he believes in his own words.

Maxwell and Hannah Peterson and CCDF “anus people,” who apparently think about sex and pornography 24/7, are hoping to get librarians and teachers arrested for these books.

In the email, Heid said a “stakeholder group” — later identified as County Citizens Defending Freedom — requested the books be removed from the shelves because the group’s members allege they contain material harmful to minors which would violate Florida statute 847.012, which involves distribution of “harmful materials” to minors.

The statute reads, in part, “Any book, pamphlet, magazine, printed matter however reproduced, or sound recording, that contains any matter … [with ] explicit and detailed verbal descriptions or narrative accounts of sexual excitement, or sexual conduct and that is harmful to minors” is prohibited from being distributed to minors; those accused of violating the statute could face a felony in the third degree.

They want teachers and media specialists to think they’ll frog-march them out the media center in handcuffs because some kid checks out the Kite Runner. These are not decent people.

They are here to dominate you and me; and the only way to respond to this level of pure, substance-free dominance-ritual bad faith is with equally absurd and escalated moral confrontation. I’m here for it. 

I’m buying these books and giving them to any kid who wants them. Come arrest me, Grady. Please.

I suspect it would be Grady Judd carrying out the media center/arrests over the existence of Two Boys Kissing. Grady’s never been shy about showy political abuse of his power.

With that in mind I sent a question to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Scott Wilder, for whom I will always great respect and affection (although I wonder what he thinks he’s doing these days), asking:

I personally own a few of the books on the book-ban list with Polk Schools. There is a reference to crime in this article in connection to sharing or assigning these books to students.

Is the sheriff prepared to enforce this? I own several of these books, and if Nobel Prize winning “Beloved” is found to be criminal pornography, does the sheriff plan to arrest private citizens who share these books with students?

I hope to get an answer.

And let me tell you something: having Grady Judd cuff me on behalf of sex-obsessed AINO-haters like Steve Maxwell and his trolls because I gave a kid Beloved would fill a hole in my life exactly that size.

I could die a happy and fulfilled man — even happier and more fulfilled than I am today. I would insist on a trial, by the way. And I would testify on my own behalf — and Beloved’s. Please give me that.
