The Lakeland Planning & Zoning Board today approved a hotly contested zoning change that will allow a proposed 244-unit apartment complex to be built next to Lake Miriam Square Shopping Center.
Without the zoning change, 40,000 square feet of additional commercial space could be built on the currently vacant between the shopping center and Lake Miriam Drive.
Preferred Apartment Communities of Atlanta got the tentative ok for its proposed six-building complex on the 12-acre parcel.
The board endorsed the proposal without public comment.

NO!!!! Apartments mean…..TRASH. PERIOD! It will bring in more people who will not keep Lakeland clean or safe! Lakeland wants to be liberal and a home for everyone. We do not want everyone! We LOVE GOD (which is the ONLY FREEDOM OF RELIGION…LOOK IT UP), OUR 2ND AMENDMENT, THE CONSTITUTION, LIBERTY, FREEDOM AND FAMILY. We do not need to be a third world city that is unrecognizable!
We need a building moratorium because we cannot handle the traffic and our schools are already busting at the seams! Our education is POOR here to begin with!
Lakeland was a beautiful retirement community and now we will be Orlando and that is NOT A GOOD THING!
