Meet a super sweet senior, Sabrina. She has a bit of a sad back story. We were contacted by an MHP in Zephyrhills to take in several cats and kittens left behind when the feeder had to be placed in an ALF. Sabrina didn’t belong to the elderly resident but she was feeding her along with all the others.
We took her to the vet for a checkup, vaccines, and a microchip. At that time, we found out that Sabrina is 15+ years old. OMG! She also has had all four paws declawed, the beginnings of cataracts, mild muscle atrophy, and only a few teeth. The MHP office was contacted several times to find out if anyone had reported her missing and the answer was always no. More than likely, someone passed away and the family tossed her outside to fend for herself. Unfortunately, this happens far too often but for an elderly cat, it’s especially traumatic.
As a reminder, no matter what your age, it’s important to have a backup plan for someone to care for your pets if something happens to you. Far too often, shelters and rescues are called upon to take in cats and dogs who were dumped outside or at the local animal shelter when the owner is no longer able to care for them or passes away.
That being said, we are so thankful that Sabrina’s foster mom, Jennie Ellis, has decided to give our senior girl a loving home where she can be comfortable for the rest of her days. Although, it might be a little while as Sabrina still has plenty of spunk in her and a very hearty appetite for her canned food. Hugs and kisses to you, Jennie!
