School Board member Lynn Wilson announced this week that he is not running for re-election in August, a move he has talked about privately in recent months, but one many said they hoped he would reconsider.

“Many of my friends and constituents have reached out to me regarding my intentions to run for a third term on the School Board; I am not seeking a third term,” Wilson, 65, said in a statement on his Facebook page. “The Polk County Public School System is one of the largest districts in the country with over 100,000 students, 14,000 employees, and a budget in excess of $2 billion dollars; the challenges are, at times, daunting.”
In addition to that, he hopes to travel with his wife, Jeanne. The couple recently celebrated their 40th anniversary and have two children, Tyler and Alexandria.
“I look forward to traveling and enjoying some of the many places in our world that we have not yet visited,” he said.
His last day in office will be in November.
