The growth is prompting major development across Polk County.
Polk County is the fastest-growing county in Florida and the seventh fastest-growing in the nation, according to data released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Between July 1, 2020, and July 1, 2021, Polk County’s population grew by 24,287 people – to 753,520.
The only other Florida County to make the nation’s top 10 fastest growing counties list was Lee County in Southwest Florida, which grew its population by 23,297 people.
But we build it they come, but there is a major flaw with this it’s called infrastructure:
What is infrastructure in simple words?
The system of public works of a country, state, or region also: the resources (such as personnel, buildings, or equipment) required for an activity.
Until our County and City leaders fix the infrastructure issues a moratorium on new housing must be started on all planned unit developments (PUDs) and multifamily developments (apartments/townhomes and etc.) A single-family home on a single lot not in a PUD would be exempt from this moratorium.
Polk County and the City of Lakeland received millions and millions of federal dollars during the pandemic instead of fixing the infrastructure but they gave a multi-billion local company corporate welfare.
It’s time to wake up we need more police on the street and more firefighters, Lakeland needs two new fire stations now! We have areas of 1930 and 40’s sewer system that needs to be upgraded.
It’s more important to have a City-owned fiber network or is it more important to proper police, fire, and even for your toilets to flush?
