Mixed media artist and avid thesaurus reader Todd Cheyney was beyond thrilled to be accepted once again at this year’s Mayfaire by-the-lake outdoor art festival. Other than the oppressive heat, the only other thing he was concerned about was which artist would be set up next to his tent.
“I’m euphoric to be back in Lakeland for this show. The people are unsurpassed, the artists are immoderately obliging, and the city is exuberantly benevolent.”, Cheyney continued, “What causes me trepidation and discomposure is whether I will, once again, be placed next to the pan flute guy.” While Cheyney doesn’t want to disparage the talent, artistry, and endurance required to play the pan flute for 10 hours straight, he did admit that “the ethereal and gossamery tunes become something other than a source of tranquility and equanimity after the first few hours.”
Swan City News located Todd Saturday afternoon at his tent and found him, once again, next to the pan flute artist. A surprisingly chipper Cheyney explained, “It really isn’t so lamentable this year. For $300, Gunther rents noise-canceling headphones to artists with contiguous tents. It’s the best $300 I’ve ever spent!”
