Because of redistricting there in Florida, a newly established Congressional voting district 15 has been established. This new voting district has become a “target” for those who want to run for congress because there is currently no incumbent to run against. For this upcoming primary, the field is now crowded with 5 republican congressional candidates. Congressional district 15 encompasses the west side of Lakeland, northeast Hillsborough County, and southern Pasco County.
But, interestingly there is evidence regarding one of the candidates that point to a possible democrat “sleeper” in the race. One of the candidates (Commander) Demetries Grimes previously a Democrat, ran for congress as a democrat in the Miami area in 2018 and lost. Below is a video from when Grimes ran as a democrat in 2018 where he talks about his dislike for President Trump and all Republicans in general.

It is not clear why Grimes suddenly decided to switch from Democrat to a conservative Republican platform. There is a lot of evidence (by his own statements) showing his strong distaste for all conservative values in general. What is clear is that he has recently moved up here to central Florida to run as a republican for the 2022 congressional race.
It definitely seems strange for a person with these types of very strong opinions to change this drastically from liberal views to a strong conservative posture, in just one year. It makes us wonder – could Demetries Grimes actually be a democrat “Trojan Horse” or a “sleeper” running as a Republican for congress? Something to consider in this crowded race with many other qualified candidates.
