The “Friends of Freedom” monument arrived from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to its new home in Veteran’s Memorial Park. The structure, created by artist Becky Ault, honors Veterans in the Spanish American War and the legendary Buffalo Soldiers who camped in Lakeland in 1898. The memorial was escorted 1,018 miles by different Units of Buffalo Soldiers along the east coast.
The official unveiling of the Spanish American War Monument will take place November 12th as part of the Veterans’ Day Celebration.
