Officials: 62 people rescued after the loss of power at The Wheel at ICON Park

Orange County Fire Rescue responded to The Wheel at ICON Park on New Year’s Eve.

ICON Park released the following statement:

“The Wheel lost power Saturday night and we’re working with the Orange County Fire Department to safely evacuate guests.”

According to Orange County Fire Rescue, 62 people total have been rescued.

Crews are continuing to conduct rescues.

This is the latest incident at the Orlando amusement park in recent years, including the death of 14-year-old Tyre Sampson earlier this year, who fell from the Orlando Free Fall ride in March.

According to the ICON Park website, The Wheel opened in 2015 after three years of construction.

It is 400 feet tall and has air-conditioned enclosures for riders.
