Strawberry Rum Smash

If you’ve been anywhere near I4 recently then you know the undeniable truth…. It’s Strawberry Festival season again! Where Florida natives and tourists alike mix together for some amazing strawberry-infused foods. Every year they can get more and more creative (and bizarre). Strawberry shortcake, strawberry pizza, and even strawberry brisket tacos are a few of the yummy treats you can find during the 11-day event. As a Plant City native myself, I have tons and tons of recipes involving strawberries. Recently I’ve really been enjoying SMASH cocktails. This involves smashing some fresh fruit with some fresh herbs. The mint in this recipe will have a natural cooling effect to help combat those 80-degree spring days out by the pool.

INGREDIENTS

  •  2 oz white rum
  •  1/2 tsp simple syrup
  •  2/3 cup ice
  •  1 1/2 cup sparkling water
  •  4 large strawberries
  •  6 mint leaves

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a glass, add the fresh strawberries and mint. Add simple syrup. Muddle so the strawberries release some juice, but don’t break the mint leaves too much. You can now remove the mint leaves or leave them in the glass.
  • Add rum

Add ice

Top with sparkling water.

Stir. Garnish and enjoy!!
