Meet Clarice and her new crew of four little ones

Meet Clarice and her new crew of four little ones. This happy scene almost didn’t take place. Yesterday about 10 am, this very young mom went into labor and had two healthy kittens by noon. By 11 pm, after 13 hours, the foster mom could tell the cat was still in labor but had not given birth to any more babies. So, Clarice was taken to the new Vets ER emergency clinic for an exam. After an x-ray, we were told that there were still two babies in the womb and they were stillborn. The foster was told an emergency C-section would be needed to save mom’s life to the tune of $2800 or to have her euthanized. The insanely absurd quote we received was not an option for us and we were definitely not going to put down a perfectly healthy, young cat. So we refused their “services” and took her home to make her comfortable for the night. Thankfully, we were able to get her into our full-service vet this morning for emergency surgery. During surgery, we received word that the two “stillborn” kittens were breathing and very much alive. Yay! We are extremely thankful that we didn’t let our emotions take over and used to good judgment to get Mom to our clinic where she received excellent care from our knowledgeable vet.

Clarice and her little bambinos are resting comfortably and will be coming home tonight. Thanks so much to our two wonderful fosters, Therese Paulson and Jennie Ellis for helping this sweet mommy and babies. Also thank you to the wonderful staff at Pet Care on Highland for getting her in so quickly and saving the other 2 babies.

We’re asking for donations to help us cover the cost of today’s surgery. Every little bit helps and all monies will be applied towards the bill.

  1. I’m sending a donation to Clarice a very heroic new Mom and thanks to the fosters for their love and compassion. I am appalled at the service they received at the emergency vet clinic. I would like to know which ER vet that that they went to. There is a new emergency vet in Harden Blvd . God bless all involved. All of God’s creatures need help from time to time and this was one of those times.
