Scott Lake Road closed until further notice
A large sinkhole has opened up on the south side of Lakeland near Scott Lake.
In a news conference, Polk County Fire Rescue officials said the sinkhole is growing, and three homes could possibly evacuate.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Scott Lake Road will be closed until the appropriate barricades are put in place for the sinkhole. At this time, officials do not think there is a threat to the road but are closing the road for safety reasons.

Officials believe the sinkhole opened because a well was being drilled offsite. The well was drilled about 180 feet down, and the movement caused a depression that possibly led to the sinkhole.
Polk County Fire Rescue said they are still assessing the situation and will have more information when it becomes available.
