A 60-year-old Lakeland man died Monday after another driver struck his car while attempting to pass other vehicles on State Road 37 in Bradley.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said in a Tuesday morning news release that the crash happened about 3:15 p.m. near SR 37 and Jamison Road, about 5 miles south of Mulberry.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Delano Butler, 60, of Lakeland was traveling north on SR 37 in a 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. Deward Flannery, 53, of Ruskin was traveling south on SR 37 in a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado and entered the northbound lane to pass other southbound vehicles, where he struck the front passenger side of Butler’s car.
When first responders arrived, they found Butler with life-threatening injuries and took him to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the PCSO said. Flannery was uninjured.
The Sheriff’s Office said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.
