Lakeland Electric is looking for city officials to ratchet up its base rate for electricity this October, in part because of residents working to reduce their usage.
Lakeland commissioners are anticipated to vote Monday on whether to allow the municipal-owned utility to increase its scheduled base rate hike from 2.25% to 3.5% as of Oct. 1. If approved, it means the customer charge on bills will increase from $12 to $13.50 a month, in addition to a higher price per kilowatt-hour used.
