A student at Babcock Ranch High School says a video posted to social media is proof she’s the victim of racial attacks and bullying by her classmates and teachers.
Students involved in the attacks posted the video to social media. They also posted memes of the student picking cotton.
The Lee County Branch of the NAACP is calling for swift action against the school’s principal.
Grace Clay, 16, said she’s been bullied by her teammates and classmates, oftentimes writing derogatory words on the class whiteboard. She’s been hit with pillows and called the n-word as her classmates told her to go pick cotton.
The video shows girls in a hotel room romping around, saying, “She didn’t go pick her cotton this morning,” followed by laughter. One girl shouts the word racism, and another says, “Get the black one.”
Clay described the pillow beating she took from volleyball teammates who belittled her during an away game inside the hotel room they were staying in.
The video was posted to social media immediately after.
