Sunshine State’s Wealthy 46: Floridians Shine in Forbes’ 2023 Rich List, But Philanthropy is Low
Forbes released its 2023 list of the 400 richest Americans this week, and once again, Floridians featured prominently.
Forty-six Florida residents made this year’s Forbes ranking of the 400 wealthiest Americans, the third most of any state.
The richest person in Florida is Ken Griffin, who relocated from Illinois earlier this year. Let’s take a quick look at the ten wealthiest people in Florida.

Philanthropy
One thing to look at is how generous these people are with their wealth.
Forbes tracks the charitable giving of every member of The Forbes 400. The report found “the richest people in America are, so far, not all that generous. Two-thirds of them have given less than 5% of their wealth away so far; only 11 have donated 20% or more.”
The people on the list are given a philanthropy score from 1 to 5 based on their generosity, with five being given to the most generous.
Unfortunately, none of the 46 Florida residents who made the list scored a five or even a four.
Only three people scored a three out of five- indicating they gave between 5% and 10% of their wealth. They are Daniel Och, Richard Schulze, and Charles. B. Johnson
