‘We know who you are,’ Quinn Mitchell said he was told
A 15-year-old aspiring journalist who once made Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis uncomfortable with a pointed question was kicked out of a Republican event.
Quinn Mitchell was escorted out of the First in the Nation Leadership Summit in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Friday by police.
DeSantis, who attended the event, has had his eye out for Mitchell ever since the teenager asked him in June at a previous New Hampshire appearance if he believed that Donald Trump ” violated the peaceful transfer of power, a key principle of American democracy that we must uphold” when Trump worked to overturn the presidential election.
DeSantis’ answer completely dodging the query made the rounds online — and the news.
Later, during a July 4 parade, Mitchell complained to CNN that he was subjected to “intimidation” by DeSantis security, which he believed restricted his rights to free speech.
Then he was bounced from the latest New Hampshire event, which surprised him.
“‘We know who you are,” Mitchell said he was told.
“Really stupid they did it again,” he tweeted Saturday.
He wasn’t doing anything wrong, he insisted and said his mom would never bring him to another political event if he had been disruptive. “Not my style,” he added.
Jimmy Thompson, a spokesperson for the New Hampshire Republican Party, told the New York Times that Mitchell’s ejection from the GOP event had been a mistake.
“During the course of the two-day event, an overzealous volunteer mistakenly made the decision to have Quinn removed from the event, thinking he was a ‘Democrat tracker,'” Thompson wrote in a text message to the newspaper.
Mitchell was allowed back into the event, where he was “free to enjoy the rest of the summit,” said Thompson, and apparently live to spar with DeSantis another day.
