One of the RICE engines was damaged during the derailment, but according to Lakeland Electric that engine will be the last one to be installed. This engine will fixed on-site.
“All of the units are fully insured,” LE spokeswoman Cathryn Lacy said.
Response teams and insurance representatives have arrived on-site.
It will take specialized equipment to lift the RICE Engine off the ground as each of the units is 21 feet tall by 43 feet long and weighs approximately 310 tons.
Each of Lakeland Electric’s new reciprocating internal combustion engines, or RICE engines are:
- 21 feet tall.
- 43 feet long.
- Weigh 310 tons.
- Generate up to 20 megawatts.
- 18 cylinders.
- 500 revolutions per minute.
